Member of Parliament for Sherwood, Mark Spencer, has lead calls for the board of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the Trust responsible for King's Mill Hospital, to step down following the revelation that 79 women allegedly had their cases of breast cancer mistreated between 2004 and 2010 including reports of administering chemotherapy treatment to women who did not have cancer.
This news couples the recent revelation of the board's inability to properly manage their PFI payments; something Mark Spencer has already raised concerns about. It is important to stress all the women who were mistreated have now been notified.
Mark said "It is both shocking and disappointing that the local NHS trust board has not been capable of providing the care that these women need during their battles with cancer. That women have received this kind of treatment is another shameful demonstration of the incompetence of the board and we must take decisive action."
"The board has already shown that they are unable to manage their finances and the resignation of the trust chairman was entirely appropriate. That said, the additional revelations regarding the board's failure to deliver the level of clinical care expected is another damning blow and in my view they all now need to resign.
"In addition to this we must push for a full independent review of their practices to ensure that never again can the trust board get in the way of doctors and nurses efforts to provide the top quality care we know that the NHS can deliver.
